“George Carlin’s American Dream” by Judd Apatow to Air in May

Judd Apatow’s documentary work will be featured in an HBO film that centers around George Carlin. Co-directed with Michael Bonfiglio, the duo will reveal the story behind the legendary comedian.

Carlin’s career spanned half a century during which he headlined 14 HBO comedy specials and appeared on The Tonight Show over 130 times, constantly evolving with the times and staying sharply resonant up until his death in 2008 and beyond. The documentary examines a cultural chameleon who is remembered as one of the most influential stand-up comics of all time.

The story reveals itself mainly through his daughter Kelly Carlin and tracks Carlin’s rise to fame and opens an intimate window into Carlin’s personal life, including his childhood in New York City, his long struggle with drugs that took its toll on his health, his brushes with the law, his loving relationship with Brenda, his wife of 36 years, and his second marriage to Sally Wade.

On “The Last Laugh” podcast with Matt Wilstein, Apatow reveals why Carlin’s work holds up decade after decade.

“It really is a fantastic story about a young guy from a family that struggled. He found a way into show business and then he evolved into this very honest comedian. And the thing that’s most interesting about it is most comedians’ work ages out. It’s just not that funny after a few decades; there’s very little comedy that holds up. And for some reason, his stuff gets better. Everything that he was talking about in the ’90s up to 2007 applies to today. He’s trending on Twitter all the time.”

The two-part documentary features interviews with Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Patton Oswalt, Stephen Colbert, Bill Burr, Bette Midler, W. Kamau Bell, Sam Jay, Judy Gold and Jon Stewart.

TRACEY MORGAN HAS SOME SERIOUS COMPETITION

Tracy’s little girl Maven who’s 8 years old did stand-up comedy at Radio City Music Hall in a rehearsal for a show coming up called
‘GARDEN OF DREAMS TALENT SHOW’

Tracy’s on the board of the Madison Square Gardens ‘Garden of Dreams Foundation’ which put on the yearly talent show. After a recent rehearsal, someone got up and did a guest set and it wasn’t Tracy, it was Maven. Word is she ‘killed it’. Told several jokes and ended with a clever story. The crowd went nuts.

After the set Maven and her pops hit a couple of bars, got wasted, then hit a strip joint, then went to a rave.
(*No wait. I made that part up. I think they went for ice cream.)

CHRIS ROCK, SADLY, TAKES ONE FOR ALL US. HOW COMICS REACTED. **UPDATED**

The repugnant behavior by Will Smith Sunday night shocked the world. It was a slap in the face to civilized society. A society already besieged with a citizenry giving itself permission to wantonly fly off the handle and lash out at perceived injustice with their fist, feet, or the closet stick they can find. The last thing we all needed to see was an example of this kind of unchecked anger coming from a major star, a hero, a elite icon, and at such a vaunted institution as the Oscars.

The behavior of Smith wasn’t the sourest of jokes last night. It was the fact he made Kayne-West-Ye look sane.

That’s not the worst of it. The sinful side of his rueful actions is the line he crossed by walking onto a stage and striking a comic. It’s not Will Smith that should feel the most of our ire though today. It’s the Academy members to a man and woman that stood up for him mere minutes later after he assaulted Chris Rock, and gave him a mighty ovation. I truly felt like throwing up. I was so ashamed to be in this business. The least that could have happened is they stayed in their seats. No, but to a person, every one of these big shots stood for him, not even feeling that a price needed to be paid. There is no punishment for bad behavior like this anymore. Not from certain types and towers.

Then we wonder why our kids act as they do?

I think the comedians of the world should and thankfully are the most up in arms today for our brother, Chris Rock. Comics, when it counts, back comics. It’s a mistake I made early in my life, not understanding this, and still regret it to this day taking the wrong side in the Comedy Store strike. Comics need to back comics. It is a brotherhood. Men, women, straight, gay, black, Asian, brown, white, and plaid. Fuck it. You can’t walk up and hit a fucking guy because you didn’t like the joke. Give him a thumbs down. Take Jada and leave. Turn your back. But stay in your rich man’s seat and keep your hands to yourself. Sorry, Will. You fucked up.

Here’s what some of the comics had to say on social. There’s a lot more talking this up as you’d expect.

SEBASTION IS SHELLING OUT NFT’S TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF HIS FANS (HIS FANS ARE ASKING “WHAT THE F*@K IS THIS?”)

Sebastion Maniscalco is giving out NFT’s to each and every single one of his fans in the New York/ New Jersey area. The NFTs (nonfungible tokens), designed by Sebastion’s wife, Lana Gomez,  for each show, feature each fan’s individual ticket section, row, and seat.

“I have never done this before and hell — who knows — I may never do it again!” Maniscalco said in announcing the NFT freebies on social media.

When questioned, most of his fans admitted they had no idea what an “NFT’ was.  Asked about receiving a free NFT, which is a historic first for a comic to give to his audience, one Maniscalco fan replied. “I think I’d rather a beer or a slice to be honest. But it’s nice. Guy’s got a big heart.”
